What To Wear On A Plane

Travelling on a plane is a whole other experience in itself especially if it’s your first time. From what you should wear, to what you should carry and what not to carry to make your travel easier and relaxed, you always need to be prepared. It can be hard to choose what to wear on your first trip by plane but not to worry. I will share some of the tips that I have picked up on from the many trips that I’ve had.

Dressing appropriately for air travel means knowing what will keep you comfortable on the plane. And given the cramped seats and various temperature changes on flights, this isn’t always easy. However, savvy air travellers like me know that it takes a combination of factors to have a positive travelling experience. For me, comfort plays a large part in making long flights pleasurable. This is why to have the best travel clothes, your outfit should not be left as a last-minute thought.

Leggings

Leggings are ideal to wear on a plane especially on long flights. Not only are leggings soft and flexible, but they are also breathable and make your flight so much more comfortable.

When choosing leggings for travel, go for dark colours such as black and navy blues so as to conceal any mishaps or spills that may occur during the flight. The stretch in leggings is perfect for extended periods of sitting, and they also keep you warm when the plane inevitably becomes freezing mid-flight.

Comfy Pants

For those of you who don’t like leggings and prefer pants, always wear loose-fitting pants when travelling on a plane. Because you will be sitting for hours in a cramped aeroplane, you need to make sure you are wearing soft, comfy pants that are a little bit loose or have some good stretch to them. There’s nothing worse than stiff, tight pants that squeeze your thighs and dig into your crotch as you sit stuffed into a tiny seat.

If you choose to wear jeans, I suggest you avoid overly tight or rigid jeans on long flights. The fabric doesn’t breathe and can become restricting quickly. Always opt for looser-fitting boyfriend jeans.

Maxi Dresses

This is another comfortable option to wear on a long haul flight. Maxi dresses are both stylish and easy to wear on a plane because their unrestrictive shape and soft fabric allow you to stay covered and feeling fresh for the whole ride.

You can pair your maxi dress with closed flat shoes or sneakers and wool sweater.

Socks

During long-distance flights, air passengers who have to remain seated for long periods are prone to deep vein thrombosis. To avoid your legs becoming red, swollen and heavy due to constrained movement, compression socks are a must.

They help to stimulate blood circulation, thus lowering the risk of DVT. Many doctors also recommend that pregnant women should wear support or compression stockings in flight.

Sneakers or comfortable shoes

It is important to remember that feet tend to swell during long-haul flights. Therefore purpose to choose your footwear wisely. You’ll also want to select shoes that are easy to slip on and off when passing through airport security.

Carry something warm

Even if you don’t wear it, carry something warm in your hand to wear when the temperature drops in your cabin. A washable travel scarf/wrap/blanket and jackets that are large enough to snuggle underneath when it’s particularly chilly are a must-have.
