Tips for Shopping for Clothes Online

Shopping for clothes online definitely has its benefits. There’s no need to wait in line, leave the house or even change out of your pyjamas. And while it comes with a lengthy list of pros, it can have a few drawbacks too. Like clothes arriving three sizes too small or getting a completely different colour. To save yourself time and disappointments, have a look at some tips I have picked up on from shopping. Use these tips the next time you go on a shopping spree, and you won’t be disappointed with your order:

Get accurate measurements for your body

Measurements for your body are important for online shopping so that you get the right sizes of clothes. If possible, you should get measured by a tailor for accurate measurements and if that’s not possible, you can ask a friend to do it for you. When measuring, take note of your bust, waist, hips and inseam. Make sure to keep your measurements up to date so because our measurements change from time to time.

Check the size charts

Size charts vary from one online shop to another. Just because you’re a size eight at one retailer doesn’t mean you’re the same size at another. In most cases, there’s usually a link right next to the clothing item you’d like to buy. Also UK, US and EU size charts vary so be careful with those so you don’t mess up on your sizes.

Always read customer reviews

If you’re shopping on a new site that you haven’t shopped on before, then always check the customer reviews before purchasing anything. Reviews give you a real perspective on the piece you’re considering.

Scan for comments touching on size, fit and quality of material to get a better idea of whether an item fits true to size, or if you’ll need to size up or down. While the piece may look on point in the photo, it might end up being tight in the bust and awkwardly loose through the hips, or any other less-than-fab combination.

Be flexible

Be aware that how a colour appears on-screen may not translate the same way in person. Not only that, but colour can also change from batch to batch. And while you should be prepared for your products to arrive in a slightly different hue, if it doesn’t match even your adjusted expectations (like burnt orange turning up neon), definitely send it back.

Check the online return policy

Even if you’ve followed all of the above steps, there still might be the occasional disappointment. Be prepared and familiarize yourself with the return policies before you shop for clothes online. Things to look for: free returns, how long you have to send the product back, whether or not you can make exchanges, if returns can be made in store and if there is a restocking fee.
