The Light at the End of the Tunnel

As hard as it may seem, there is always light at the end of the tunnel but sometimes, this tunnel is too long and too dark and we cannot seem to know where we are headed. The tunnel may also be too wide and we may go back to where there is more darkness. This tunnel is a jumbled mess. It is a confusing maze. It is a bottomless pit, devoid of form. It is scary to be in this tunnel. The uncertainty is real and depression and anxiety lead you on to the land of overthinking. So when people casually say there is light at the end of the tunnel, you wonder which end of the tunnel they are talking about and whether or not you will ever reach that end.

I, too, believe there is absolutely light at the end of the tunnel but as we pursue that light, we must switch on our torches and spotlights to help us see and know where we are headed. As we wait for the universe to bring us good tidings, we have to work it within ourselves. We have to make those personal changes, take those baby steps and make sure we are in tune for when our stars align.

It may be very hard because some days when we are in the tunnel and we want to give up. We do not even want to wake up and put in a little effort into things as simple as like brushing our teeth. The tunnel feels compressing and tight and we feel suffocated. It is during these days that the proverbial light becomes a facade. You feel lost and alone, unable to lift a finger or mouth a word.

But this light at the end of the tunnel can only be reached at if we continue making those little steps towards it. You have to be hard on yourself and do the things that are not always easy. Things like waking up an hour or two earlier to read a book or meet a deadline. Things like self-education and learning a skill you have always wanted to. Things like reaching out to friends and relatives you had fallen out with and making amends before the year ends. Things like cutting down on sugar and doing those tough workouts to meet your body goals.

It is all in the tiny efforts put in – eating the elephant, you know. Start with the tail, then the ears, then maybe part of the trunk and before you know it, you will have consumed the whole elephant. Do not get in over your head, trying to kill a hundred birds with one stone. Just know that to reach that light at the end of the tunnel, you have to be willing to head in the right direction, be patient and you will be there before you know it.
