LIFE.

We have all been there. Compared ourselves to the next person, wished we had what they have. Felt far behind. They drive and we don’t. They are married but we have been single for the last 3 years.

We have felt unattractive, undeserving of love and unsuccessful.

It all started with a thought. A thought in our minds. No one necessarily told us these things. We are our own worst enemies it is said. We have believed that the next person is better than us. For whatever reason.

Isn’t it a wonder how powerful our mind is? But what’s more surprising is that most of the time we allow ourselves to think the worst of ourselves. Call it human nature.

Maybe believing that we are beautiful, or successful or loved will make us appear proud. But what if we actually are these things?

What if that high school classmate who is now married with two children is not any happier than you who is still searching for a spouse?

What if beauty actually does lie in the eyes of the beholder and someone actually thinks you are stunning beyond words?

What if you are closer to your big break despite searching for a job for a long time and that you are not lagging behind your peers?

A TIME FOR EVERYTHING.

He has made everything beautiful in its timeEcclesiastes 3:11

As I grow older, I have come to appreciate the essence of TIME. That there’s a time for everything.

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Respect for time means that we do not run ahead of ourselves by beating ourselves down for not being where we ‘thought’ we should be by now. It is working towards our goals while remaining content with the process. Being fully present and loving every moment of it. After all tomorrow is not guaranteed, or is it?

It is appreciating the next person’s success while loving our journey as well. It is a deep-seated security; confidence that we are headed in the right direction. Whether or not is looks like it. As long as we are doing our best, we ought not to be worried. We can trust the process.

LIFE HAPPENS

Social media has made us believe that problems are not part of life. That sadness, fear, loss, pain and such like emotions should not be experienced. That life should be an uphill journey.

But life  has it’s valleys and hills, and they all make it a beautiful ride. You cannot have sunshine without rain, you cannot harvest without planting. That’s life.

If only we understood the basic principles of life, we would appreciate every season we find ourselves in. We would learn to navigate the low seasons and celebrate the highs.

If only we understood that life happens to each one of us, we would not hold a pity party to compare ourselves with others.

We would learn to live each day at a time and be more gentle with ourselves.
