How To Thrive Everyday

Learn how to thrive everyday

It is said that bit by bit makes a habit. It is in the little things that we do everyday that count over time. Those five minutes that you spare to help someone out today, that ten shillings that you donate to charity or those 30 minutes of yoga everyday all add up in the end. It is always not about the bigger picture. Life is a jigsaw puzzle and all you need is those tiny bits and pieces to make it complete. For some people, their puzzle may come complete in a day, for some it is a week and for some, even years. That is why it is called a personal journey. It is a marathon, not a sprint and recognizing that everyone’s journey is different eliminates any form of living beyond your means or worse still, comparing yourself to others. We are all working to get there and here are a few on how ways to thrive everyday.

Get 30 more minutes of sleep

Are you one to say that you want to sleep earlier and then find yourself still binging on YouTube or meme pages way past 2 am? Well, you remember that you have work to be at in a few hours and now you know that you won’t have enough sleep? How about how cranky and upset you feel as you go about your day because of inadequate sleep? Everything pisses you off and you just cannot wait for the day to be over.

Guess what, you can change this by going to bed a little bit earlier than normal or if you wake up too early, spend 30 more minutes in bed. A well rested human being is a happy being. Try this.

Meditate for 5 minutes

Find five minutes from your day and meditate. You can put some soft music in the background to help transport you to tranquility. Envision the life you want – a happy one. Meditation will calm your racing heart, help with stress and blood pressure as well as give you renewed strength to face the day.

Limit your screen time

Learn to disconnect from your devices. Your life is not on your phone or computer. If you must, set a timer for how much time you can be on an app and once the time has elapsed, do something that does not involve being on an electronic gadget. Even if it means going to bask or sorting our your pantry. Do it.

Get Moving

Been on your desk all day? Wake up and stretch a little bit. If there is not much room for that, opt to take the stairs instead of the lift. Walk to the local shopping center, walk the dog, go to the gym, take a hike, run.

Set your top priorities

In your daily to do list, write that which is urgent first then followed by the rest then allocate your time accordingly. Make time for important stuff whether its work, your relationship, your family or your religion.

Be grateful

In your journal, write down three things you are grateful for everyday. It could be redundant or mundane such as your health but it is okay. Remember there are people who are not as lucky to be healthy. It could sound like it is insignificant but your will appreciate you were thankful for such things.

Accept yourself; flaws and all

Even as you work on being the best version of yourself, accept the you NOW. You are a work in progress and learning to accept this will help you go through life better. Do not be self-loathing, speaking ill of your self and feeling like you cannot amount to nothing. Reaffirm to yourself that you are doing the best you can to be the best version of yourself.

Let your creativity shine

Wondering how to thrive everyday, use at least five minutes of your time to be creative. Paint something, draw something, write a poem, sing a verse and let those creative juices flow. You do not have to be an expert in anything but try and be creative.

When teaching yourself how to thrive everyday, you do not have to have everything figured out. Something as simple as checking up on an old friend, buying that homeless man a meal or just deciding to learn a new skill could make all the difference in your life. Give back your time, your energy and your smile.
