When you are trying to lose weight, water should be your number one best friend. Water is healthy and important for the functioning of our bodies but many people struggle to consume the recommended 8 glasses per day. Lack of water causes dehydration, lethargy, muscle weakness among other things. To help you increase your daily water intake, here are a few tips and tricks.

  • Set a daily goal

Just saying you need to take at least 8 glasses of water per day will not cut it. Be proactive about it. Write it down, set reminders on your phone or better still, download an app that has alarms for your next water intake. Setting a goal motivates you to actually go ahead and drink the water.

  • Always have a water bottle with you

Carry a bottle with water at all times. Ensure it is by your desk or in your car. Let it be in sight. It will encourage you to take water often. I like water bottles that are appealing to the eye. They are motivating and I find myself refilling them because I take more water.

  • Replace other drinks with water

Replace your morning coffee or tea with water. Take water instead of processed juice during your lunch break. Craving a soda or energy drink, take water instead. You will be shocked at how much more water you will take as a result of replacing other drinks with water.

  • Drink a glass of water before each meal

Make a habit of drinking one glass of water before breakfast, lunch or dinner. Those are three glasses added to your daily intake.

  • Flavor your water

If you do not like the plain taste of water, get flavors with zero calories. Make your water taste better hence encouraging you to take more water.

  • Eat foods high in water

These include lettuce, zucchini, celery, cabbage, watermelon, cantaloupe among others. Whatever it takes, increase your water intake.

  • Drink a glass or water first thing in the morning and last thing before you go to bed

Water has a myriad of benefits in our bodies and ecosystem as a whole. Consciously seek to increase your water intake. Be creative about it and above all be consistent. Make water your friend.
