Things Every Woman Should Do Before Marriage

Every woman fantasizes about getting married to prince charming and having a fairy tale wedding. It’s a girl’s thing. And it’s completely normal.

Even though marriage is undoubtedly an exciting thing to look forward to, it’s best not to rush into it.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been with your significant other for several years, or even decades. Don’t rush it.

And that’s why I have come up with a list of all the things every woman should do before marriage and committing themselves to someone for the rest of their lives.

Live alone

I think it’s absolutely essential that every woman should experience the perks and hardships of living alone.

This is one of those things that teaches you so many lessons at a go. You learn to be financially and emotionally independent and enjoy your own company.

Remember: the key to a strong marriage is emotional and financial maturity.

Date Around

I know a lot of you are probably giving me the side eye because of this. But, yes, going out with a few people before getting hitched is actually healthy.

Different relationships help you know what is right for you and what’s not. Such that when you finally settle down in marriage, you will have settled for what you actually need and want in a life partner.

Get your finances in order

One of the biggest mistakes many women do is get married to when their finances aren’t that good and thinking that a man will cater for all your needs.

Truth is, a lot of men nowadays feel more confident marrying a financially independent woman.

When you are financially stable, it also means that should you for any reason split up or divorce, you’ll be able to stand on your own two feet.

Splurge on yourself

Before saying I do, you should have at least once in your life went all out for yourself in terms of spending.

Buy that bag you have been eyeing for a long time, go on an expensive getaway trip, buy your dream car (if you can). The list is endless.

When you get into marriage, this is one thing you won’t be able to do. This is because your money becomes yours and your husband’s money and you can’t really do much for yourself before consulting your partner.

Travel with your future spouse

Everyone can get along for a weekend, but see if you can stand each other for a whole week, dealing with travel dilemmas.

This will help you gauge if you and your partner make a great team in a new environment where anything can go wrong.

Take a life changing adventure around the world

Before getting hitched, take advantage of your freedom to be totally selfish in your travelling endeavours now.

Take the opportunity to see and experience the world around you alone or with your friends. The experiences you get out of this adventure will help to solidify who you are as a person and help you settle down without having any regrets on things you should have done before marriage.

Focus on your education

If you’ve always wanted to get a degree, masters or pHD, when you’re single is the best time. Not that you can’t do this once you’re married.

When you are single, you have more time and freedom to focus on achieving your dreams unlike when you are married and have kids.

Marriage is a beautiful thing. But before getting into one, take time to really think about what you want for yourself and the kind of partner you desire.

Informative. As a young unmarried woman hitting 27, I find this article important. Sometimes it’s hard for me especially being unemployed but its upon me to fix things up. We have to be strong and independent as women in this world.
