Casual Fridays at Work: What to Wear and What to Stay Away From

Casual fridays work wear

For most companies, casual Fridays, where companies relax their dress codes, have become a norm. Even so, what is really appropriate to wear on this work day?

While it may be okay to dress down in jeans and sneakers, that doesn’t mean you should be sloppy.

You should still maintain professionalism by wearing office appropriate outfits that go well with your place of work.

Tops

Choosing tops to wear on Casual Fridays to work should be guided by wanting to look classy and elegant.

Women should avoid wearing tops that are revealing than the regular tops. Crop tops and sheer materials should not be worn to work on casual Fridays.

Instead, choose a well-cut blouse which is comfortable and includes a touch of colour.

For men, a polo shirt or other button-down shirt, with long or short sleeves and no tie, is just right.

Pants

In most work places, casual Fridays offer the opportunity for employees to wear jeans, for both men and women.

Dark jeans are the best because they help to balance professionalism and casualness. White jeans are also a good choice because they give off a clean and classic look.

Avoid jeans that are too ripped and have large holes in them. You can go for slightly ripped jeans but don’t go overboard with it.

Shoes

It goes without saying, some shoes are unacceptable at work, even on casual Fridays.

Excessively high heels, sandals and sports shoes are some shoes that you shouldn’t wear to work.

Cute flat shoes, boots and heels are perfectly okay footwear for the office. In some offices, classic white or black rubbers can be okay if paired right.

Accessories

Accessories such as bags and coats can also make your look professional even on casual Fridays.

One of my favourite accessories is a classic blazer. It helps to balance your casual outfit by giving it a more professional look.

For jewellery, conservative and laid back options are more appropriate to wear on casual Fridays. They help balance your casual outfit.

Avoid anything that clacks, clangs, or makes any other noise. Hoops and big statement rings should be left for the weekend.

Keep in mind that what you wear says a lot about who you are, and can share much about your work ethic, too.
