When the cold season kicks in, I find myself conflicted about finding the right balance between fashion and warmth.
I know what you are thinking, she’s the “freeze and shine” kind of girl. Well, yes and no. But to be honest, I try to put a little bit of effort into what I wear, even during the cold season.
I always say that the cold shouldn’t be the reason why you throw your sense of fashion out the window. You can still have fun with some fashion and look great every day.
I promise you, great style even in this cold is very much possible. Here are some of my top tips and tricks. And seriously, stay warm out there.
Trenchcoats are the go-to clothing item for almost everyone out there when the cold season sets in.
So how do you make yourself stand out from the crowd?
A lot of women, I included, are tempted to wear less colorful clothing by going with dark coats in either black or grey.
You can stand out by opting for a statement trenchcoat in a bright color or a bold print.
To pull off this kind of look, keep the rest of your look neutral and let the coat do all the talking.
Most shops in Nairobi have good trench coat collections. However, they don’t really stand out. A place I would recommend for unique and trendy trench coats is Coast UK and Karren Miler.
They are both online shops that offer a large collection of very unique trench coats that you won’t find anywhere else.
Personally, I find that boots are the perfect fashion statement during the cold season.
They offer both comfort, warmth and most importantly, style.
The only way to bring out their style is knowing how to pair them with the right outfit.
My go-to boots, are Chelsea boots. They are both chic and simple and go with almost everything, from dresses, skirts, and trousers.
For boots, Zara and Topshop are my top two favorite shops. Their boots are both unique and pocket friendly.
The other option for wearing boots during the cold season is going for thigh high boots.
I love this option because it gives you a chance to show off your long legs and if you are a bit shorter, they give you the illusion of longer legs.
As is with the Chelsea boots, thigh-high boots can also be worn with dresses, skirts and trousers.
Here are a few ideas you can use to wear thigh high boots.
Turtle necks, otherwise best known in Kenya as pull necks, are also on my list of items of clothing to wear during this cold season and still stay in fashion.
When styling them with bright colored trenchcoats, I recommend going in with dull colors such as black and grey.
Turtle necks always look best when tucked in trousers and skirts because they help accentuate your waist.
For the best turtle necks I shop at Asos, Topshop and Zara.
You might be thinking that sweaters and cardigans are only loungewear pieces, but they usually come in handy during the cold season especially when you need to run some errands and at the same time show off your sense of fashion.
Asos, Topshop and Zara are also the perfect plug for sweaters and cardigans.
