THE DRESS OVER PANTS TREND

One of the most defining trends from the ’00s was a dress over pants. That clashing style job, where one pairs a pretty sundress or a silk slip with trousers and jeans, has slowly been creeping its way back into current fashion times, whether one likes it or not. The tricky layering has popped up on runways and stylish celebrities: just last week Rihanna served hers in a recent Instagram post where she wore a classic white T-shirt and blue jeans with a black mesh bra-top and purple mesh slip dress.

Styling a dress with pants might create images of an outfit that is completely shapeless. Here’s the thing: When done right, this unlikely pairing is anything but baggy and frumpy. With the right mindset and the best pieces, a billowy dress worn over a pair of sleekly tailored pants could very well become your favorite look for this season.

In continuation with my styling series with Lady Mandy, we put together a dress over pants look and folded the front part of the dress and added a belt to cinch the waist. Together? A beautiful elegant look that can be worn to Church, and an event.

Both fabrics on the pants and dress are silky and soft which makes the whole outfit delicately feminine.

Any shoe can work with this look and I threw on brow mules for a laid back look.

Overall? I loved it! Surprisingly it’s one of the most liked looks on my lookbook featuring Lady Mandy. Check it out here.
